What it actually is

Not an inflatable.A cave.

Commissioned in 2011 and tested covertly across two years of live events, The Trailer Cave condenses a full caving adventure into 30 linear metres of sculpted rock. Every caver gets a helmet and head torch, a short brief, then they are sent off to find their own way through.

It is tight in the right places and open in others. People come out muddy-kneed, wide-eyed and straight back into the queue.

Inside the system

Four distinct passages

01

The Sump

A low, tight duck under a rock lip — the moment most cavers decide they're braver than they thought.

02

Boulder Field

Uneven, three-dimensional ground that forces route choice rather than a straight crawl.

03

The Chamber

The passage opens out. Room to kneel, turn a head torch upward and see the formations.

04

Bedding Plane

A long horizontal squeeze between two rock beds — the real thing, faithfully reproduced.

Modular by design

The passage is built as linked modules within the trailer shell, with multiple exit points so any caver can be reached in seconds. It opens out for operation and packs back down for the road in minutes.

Field questions

Before you go in

Yes. It is suitable for adults and children, and realistic in dimension as well as feature — a fantastic way to explore caving in a secure, controlled environment.

The main passageway allows a caver of 6'4" tall, 44" chest, 20" shoulders and 42" waist. Just like a real cave, it will not be suitable for everybody.

The trailer measures 7m long by 2m wide. We recommend an operational area of 10m x 6m, allowing for safety matting at each exit point and crowd control if needed.

Between 120 and 150 participants per hour, depending on group age and briefing style. One trained staff member can run the system.

Every caver is issued a helmet and head torch and given a short brief before entry. Multiple exit points mean anyone can be reached quickly, and safety matting is laid at each exit.

Yes. Systems are built to order by The Trailer Cave Limited in the UK, delivered free and handed over with full onsite training by a senior team member.
